Vitesse

Founding

Vitesse Arnhem is a Dutch football club based in Arnhem. The club was founded on May 14, 1892. Since 1989, Vitesse has played continuously in the highest division. Between 1990 and 2002, the club was a stable ‘subtopper’ in the Netherlands. Subsequently, Vitesse had a difficult time, after chairman Karel Aalbers was forced to leave. In 2010, Vitesse became the first Dutch club to come into foreign hands. Since then, the Arnhemmers again structurally belong to the subtop in the Eredivisie. Vitesse never won the Dutch championship, but won the KNVB cup in 2017. In the UEFA ranking of the best clubs in Europe, Vitesse was in 107th place on 7 March 2022 with a total of 14,000 points.

Vitesse plays its home games in the GelreDome stadium, which can accommodate more than 21,000 spectators. The traditional equipment of Vitesse consists of a vertically striped yellow-black shirt, based on the colors of the province of Gelderland and of the Van Pallandt family.
