De Graafschap

Founding

De Graafschap is a Dutch football club based in Doetinchem, The Netherlands. The club was founded in the year 1954. The traditional equipment of De Graafschap consists of a horizontal striped blue and white shirt, based on the colors of the city. The Achterhoekers play their home games at De Vijverberg. The stadium can accommodate 12,600 spectators.

The supporters of the club call themselves ‘super farmers’ and are known for their Achterhoek mentality and friendly atmosphere. De Graafschap owes the nickname the Super Farmers to this. De Graafschap has never won the Dutch championship and has never won the KNVB cup. The highest final ranking in the Eredivisie was the eighth place in 1997. Because of the many promotions and relegations, De Graafschap, as well as VVV-Venlo and FC Volendam, is known as a ‘back and forth club’.
